Going Green
Mueller Braces for Environmental Change
With everyone going green, Mueller Sports Medicine has introduced a line of athletic braces and supports made primarily from recycled plastic bottles and other recycled substances. Called Mueller Green, the products also feature a core made from non-petroleum based materials.
The Mueller Green line offers “green” versions of its adjustable hinged knee brace; an adjustable ankle support; two wrist braces; an adjustable back/abdominal support; and an adjustable elbow support. Unlike most sports braces, which use neoprene (a petroleum-based material) for their core, Mueller Green’s core material is derived from limestone. Mueller Green products also use a spandex binding made of 73 percent recycled materials and a liner made of 67 percent recycled PET bottles.
Diadora Uniforms Go Green
Golden Viking Sports, the exclusive U.S. licensee of Diadora soccer footwear, apparel and accessories, has introduced Diadora Terra Verde, an environmentally friendly soccer apparel collection made from post-consumer recycled P.E.T.
The Terra Verde line, comprised of a Jersey/Short Kit and a polo shirt, is made with eco-friendly Rethink fabric. Rethink is made of 100 percent recycled polyester derived from used soft drink and water bottles. In fact, the Terra Verde Jersey is made from 14 recycled water bottles.
“We are very proud to lead the way in the U.S. soccer community with the first eco-friendly soccer uniform,” says Bill Nuttall, president of Golden Viking Sports.
The Diadora Terra Verde Jersey is retail priced at $34, the short is $26 and the polo shirt is $48. The polo shirt is currently available and the Kit will be available in February 2010. Other garments will be added to the line for Spring 2011. At present, all apparel in the Terra Verde line is unisex, but gender-specific pieces will be added in the future.
