Sports, Inc. Holds Summer Show

July 21, 2010

June 26th marked the end of the Sports, Inc. 2010 Summer Show in Grapevine, Texas. Despite the challenges with the economy, record attendance highlighted an excellent show. Sports, Inc. was represented by more than 475 store personnel from 190 store locations. By design, 113 vendors attended the show exhibiting over 150 booths. Sports, Inc. members had the opportunity to work with 477 exhibitor staff and industry representatives.

2010 Sports, Inc. Store of the Year
First Team Sports Center of the Carolinas was named the 2010 Sports, Inc. Store of the Year. Located in Greenville, SC, First Team was opened in January 1994 by Mike Miros. Miros and his team focus on being a leading provider of athletic equipment and apparel for high school, college and recreational sports teams in upstate South Carolina and western North Carolina.

First Team Sports believes that there are three key factors to their success. Miros says that “first, our service level, to say we go above and beyond for our customers is truly an understatement. We have been known to drive several hours on a Sunday evening to deliver orders to a customer to ensure that they were prepared for a Monday game or tournament. Second, because of our experience level, we have been providing products and support for team sports since 1994. Our employees have over 100 years combined in this industry alone! Third, because of the products we carry. As you can see, we carry only the best equipment and apparel available. Names like Adidas, Russell, Nike and more. Products you won’t find just anywhere, with quality and authenticity that can’t be topped!”

“Each year we have a hard decision to make because of the number of quality dealers that make Sports, Inc. the premier team dealer group in the nation” states Matt Martin, the athletics marketing director for Sports, Inc. “Mike and his team are truly supportive and are very worthy recipients of the 2010 Store of the Year award.”

Sports, Inc. Vice President of Marketing Todd Adams adds “Mike has not been a member for very long but he has really made a difference as a Sports, Inc. member. Mike’s staff is first class. His bookkeeper, Kathy Hamby, is truly an asset and James Sparks and the rest of his sales force have to be at the top in the industry. We are proud to be able to call them a member and a partner.”

2010 Sporting Chance Award
The Sports, Inc. Sporting Chance Award has donated nearly $500,000 to communities and the industry in the years since its inception. Each February and June, the winner of a random drawing is awarded a $20,000 prize to be given to a worthy group(s) that promotes sporting goods in their market area. The June 2009 winner was Gee and Bee Sporting Goods in Auburn, Maine. Their award money was used to purchase baseball/softball equipment and supplies such as retractable batting cage netting and pitching machines and they also built dugouts at a local youth league field. The June 2010 award of $20,000 was presented to Nicklasson Athletic in New Ulm, Minn.
